Annual Lecture 2007 – Kofi Annan

The Fifth Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture was delivered by Mr Kofi Annan on Sunday 22 July.

The venue was the Linder Auditorium at the University of the Witwatersrand’s Education Campus. The lecture was attended by an audience of about 1 500 invited guests, and also broadcast on South African television and radio.

The Former UN Secretary-General and Nobel laureate focused on the progress of Africa, saying it needed to be balanced on three pillars: security, development and human rights. He said that while significant progress had been made in Africa in relation to all three of these pillars, much still needed to be done.
