Do What You Can, With What You Have, Where You Are

The flooding that took place in KwaZulu-Natal in 2022, after the Easter holidays devastated that province and everyone who cares about it, and the people who call it home. The Nelson Mandela Foundation, together with its partners, answered the call to action and collected donations to assist families and communities were badly affected.

With the death toll over 400, many are still missing and over 40 000 people were displaced in Durban alone. Families ost their homes and all of their belongings, and were left destitute.

People who wanted to show their support and solidarity donated blankets, clothing, construction and housing materials as well as furniture, sanitary pads and baby products. Monetary donations on our GivenGain platform went towards food and other emergency supplies.

The Foundation partnered with IT-Labs, which provided  a dedicated local team of young graduates to deliver relief supplies. Filmmaker Anant Singh made available the VideoVision Entertainment Group KZN studio as a storage & distribution hub.

We are grateful to our partners and stakeholders who made this work possible. No contribution is too small to make a meaningful impact in this tragic moment during very difficult times.
